One of Buddhism’s most profound tenets is impermanence. This mala, made with etched Mother of Pearl beads, is a notable example. Over time, the beads’ etchings gradually and intentionally fade, teaching us that nothing is forever. The mantra on the beads is “Om Mani Padme Hum, which translates to “hail to the jewel in the lotus.” There are 108 beads total plus an additional guru bead and tassel. Beads measure approximately 8 mm each.
