About Zen Gardens

What these are

Small tabletop trays holding sand, stones, and a rake for a short daily pause. The collection gathers fifteen zen gardens and home decor pieces built from wood, metal, ceramic, stone, and other natural materials. Figures and forms vary across the group: happy Buddha, purple Buddha, yin yang, a meditating frog, floral orbs, and minimalist cast stone orbs. A few pieces hold live air plants, moss, or orchid bark, so the tray becomes a small living scene rather than only a sand surface.

Stones and sand

Sand comes in white, gray, and black. Gemstones set into the trays include citrine, tiger's eye, amethyst, lapis, amazonite, aventurine, carnelian, and agate. One tray is a full chakra stone set laid in black sand; another is a crown chakra amethyst garden. Intentions named across the pieces run from zen and mindfulness to peace, wisdom, balance, joy, abundance, and energy. Prices run from about $40 to $58.

Where to place it

A desk corner, a windowsill, or a low shelf near a reading chair. The rake is meant to be used — draw slow lines while you settle into a breath or a mantra, then reset the sand at the end of the session. Trays with air plants or moss prefer indirect light and a light mist.

Care

Keep sand dry and reshape with the rake between sessions. Wipe stone, metal, and ceramic trays with a soft dry cloth; wood trays appreciate occasional light oiling. Rinse loose gemstones under cool water now and then, and pat dry before returning them to the sand.

What size are these trays?

One sample listing gives a 7x11 wood tray; other pieces vary in size and material across wood, metal, ceramic, and stone. Each is scaled for a desk, windowsill, or low shelf, with the rake and stones sitting inside the tray.

Do these work as gifts?

Yes — gift is a listed theme in the collection. Trays with named intentions like joy, abundance, peace, or wisdom pair well with a card naming that intention, and the Buddha, frog, and yin yang forms suit a range of tastes.

How do I use one during meditation?

Place the tray within reach, take a slow breath, and draw lines in the sand with the rake around the stones or figure. Many people also hold or rearrange the gemstones — citrine, amethyst, lapis and the others — while sitting with an intention.
