Meaning and Significance of the Flower of Life in Sacred Geometry - Buddha Groove

The “Flower of Life” geometric pattern is found in every major religion and culture in the world.€ The oldest known example of the Flower of Life is found etched into granite at the Temple of Osiris at Abydos, Egypt. The Flower of Life has also been found in Assyrian, Phoenician, Indian, Middle Eastern, Asian and medieval art.

The Flower of Life represents one of the most elemental patterns of creation that gives substance to the world. The physical world emerges out of The Great Void, coaxed into existence by consciousness. Quantum physics teaches us that what appears to be solid is actually more than 99.999% empty space at the atomic level. In this way, the Flower of Life represents a pattern of energy more than a solid shape.

Thoughts and Vibrations As Tools of Creation

The Flower of Life is made up of numerous Eggs of Life, which are comprised of Seeds of Life. Each Seed of Life is made of seven circles in sixfold symmetry. This forms a pattern of circles and “lenses” (vesica piscis) – the basic building blocks of the Egg of Life and ultimately the Flower of Life.

The Egg of Life mirrors what happens in cell division when a cluster of eight cells are formed. It is a building block for both music and the human body, which underscores the vibrational nature of all things.

Adding more and more of these fractal shapes eventually creates the beautiful, intricate Flower of Life pattern. Contained within the Flower of Life is the Tree of Life, which is comprised of 13 circles at various intersecting points. Some believe the Tree of Life to be the most sacred and elemental symbol of the Universe. It is actually a 3D symbol, as is the Flower of Life when viewed energetically.

The Fruit of Life, Metatron’s Cube and the Five Platonic Solids

To view the Flower of Life in full accuracy, there are two additional layers that must be added to it. While still a 2D image when drawn or etched, it starts to take on more of the properties of its true impact. A 3D representation is located in the ancient Forbidden City of Beijing, China, where a spherical Flower of Life is held under the paw of the “Fu-Dog,” or “Guardian Lion.

Some believe the Flower of Life represents an energetic stargate or interdimensional portal. Metatron’s Cube is also derived from the Flower of Life; it is created by connecting lines from the 13 circle centers of an extended Flower of Life (the Fruit of Life) to the centers of the other 12. Metatron’s Cube contains all five of the Platonic solids – the building blocks of all creation.

The Sacred Geometry Inside of You

The Fibonacci Spiral is also derived from the Flower of Life; this pattern relates to a series of numbers created by adding the previous two numbers together. The Fibonacci Spiral is found throughout nature, mirrored in living things both grand and small. The Nautilus shell, pine cones, hurricanes and the seed heads of flowers are just a few examples. It is also reflected in the proportions of the human body both inside and out.

The Flower of Life can be discussed, written about and analyzed endlessly; however, the best way to experience it is to contemplate it yourself. There are many artistic representations to be found online, from 2D to 3D to animated. Try meditating on the Flower of Life and see what it stirs in you. You might also try drawing one yourself to delve even deeper into its magic and mystery.

Sacred geometry to wear and hang

The pattern is easier to sit with when it is in front of you. Three ways we make it:

Flower of Life Grid Necklace

Necklaces — The full overlapping grid, cut small in sterling silver. Fine enough to layer, detailed enough to hold up close.

Flower of Life Teardrop Earrings

Earrings — The same geometry stretched into a drop, in gold-plated brass. The pattern reads at a distance.

Lotus Mandala Pendant

Pendants — A mandala built from the same principle — one center, repeated outward, finished as a lotus.

Flower of Life Crystal Grid

Crystal Grids — The grid printed as a working surface, with moon phases around the edge. For people who lay stones out on it.
