Meaning & Intention
The singing bowl is one of the oldest tools of Himalayan meditation practice, its voice produced not by mallet strikes alone but by the slow, circling friction of a striker along the rim. That sustained hum has long been used to settle a scattered mind, mark the beginning or end of a sitting practice, or simply call a room back to stillness.
Etched into this bowl is Om Mani Padme Hum, the six-syllable mantra of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Each syllable is traditionally linked to a quality to be purified and cultivated in turn — generosity, ethics, patience, perseverance, concentration, and wisdom — making the mantra a compact map of the path toward compassionate awareness. Chanted or simply held in mind, it is considered one of the most widely recited invocations in Tibetan Buddhism.
