Malas are practical, not to mention beautiful, tools for meditation. Moving through the mala one bead at a time, you may count or chant a chosen mantra with each bead. The large bead, also known as the guru bead, is there to help you keep track. When you reach the guru bead, stop, reverse direction, and start again.
